Zimo DCC Product Price List

Foothill Model Works is proud to now be a dealer for Zimo’s fine line of decoders! Zimo’s decoders combine the high quality, precision motor control of Austrian/German decoders with up-dateable software; an active, eager, friendly engineering staff; and high quality, back
After spending years struggling with the competition and not getting the results we wanted, we finally came across this great line of decoders. And it didn’t take long for us to be convinced that they were the real deal. The motor control was superb, the sound quality was great, the programming wasn’t too complicated (all sound programming is necessarily complex, it’s just that Zimo’s wasn’t anywhere near as complicated as the competition), and chuff volume really did follow the engine load without sacrificing motor control!
For complete information about Zimo’s impressive line of products, be sure to check out their web site!
Some Highlights:
- Active, eager staff support. Joining the Zimo-DCC Yahoo Group highly recommended!
- Small, compact decoder design.
- Amplifier circuit doesn’t require external capacitor.
- Wide range of plugs, input leads, and output function leads/options on various decoders.
- UPS circuit only requires inexpensive, user supplied capacitor to function.
- Frequent, downloadable decoder software updates that bring both bug fixes and new features. See Decoder Software Updates
- Self-configuring, self-adjusting Back
emf characterization. (Uses a simple, programing-on-the-main sequence on straight level track. Put 75 into CV302 for forward characterization, 76 for reverse. The decoder does the rest!) - Motor load driven exhaust (chuff) sounds! (Drifts downhill, light chuff on cruise, heavy chuff uphill.) Switchable between light and heavy chuff sounds on-the-fly, with special programming using update module.
- Fully configurable sounds. (Pick different bells, whistles, etc. Assign sounds to different function keys/random times/triggered events. Adjust volumes independently. Etc.)
- US decoders come pre-programmed with a variety of both Steam and Diesel sounds.
- Downloadable sound sets! (Steam, Diesel, Electric. US, European, etc. Free and commercial. Zimo and user supplied.) See Zimo Sound Database.
- Free, Windows based, programming software. See Zimo Software Updates
Please Note: Zimo’s product line is manufactured in Europe, imported into Canada, and then to us here in the USA. As such, there can be some shipping delays and prices are subject to the fluctuations of the international monetary exchange rate (twice: Euro to CAN$, then CAN$ to US$). While we will do the best we can to smooth out these ups and downs, please check with us first to confirm current pricing before placing your order.

Decoder Update Modules
While you can certainly fully use Zimo’s line of sound decoders without this device, they really begin to shine when used in combination with this module. Programmability is what Zimo decoders are all about. You can update your decoders software (Zimo’s engineers are very active and new version of the software often bring new features and fucntions, not just bug fixes), download different or additional locomotive sounds (Zimo has an extensive library of both free and commercial sound files available online, and its decoders can use sound files found elsewhere on the net), assign sounds and features to the f-keys you want easily, and even activate special features not normally available with the default sound set (like fast-slow air pumps and on-the-fly, switchable light-heavy steam chuff sounds).
The software used to program Zimo’s decoders is free and can be found on Zimo’s web site. The software requires Windows. (We have no problems running their software on 64-bit Windows 7 on a cheap Compaq laptop.)
MXULF

USB thumb drive based Decoder Update Module. This device takes files stored on a USB thumb drive and uses them to update your decoder firmware and download sound files to your Zimo decoders, independently from your DCC system. And because it uses a USB thumb drive, this device also allows the updating of the decoder software and pre-packaged sound files downloaded from non-Windows computers. Good new for Mac and Linux users! While its current functionality is limited to updating decoder firmware, downloading whole sound project files, and updating its own firmware; development of this product is ongoing. Future possible features include: the ability to select different files on the USB drive, driving and switching functions, adding sounds to existing sound projects on the decoder, and USB connection to a computer (like the MXDECUP). A video of its current capabilities by Paul Chetter is available on YouTube here. Power supply and USB thumb drive not included. |
